Oven Baked Tacos
These tacos are a family favorite. Melting cheese under and over the meat of the taco makes it more cheesy and delicious.
Ingredients
- 1½ lbs. ground meat
- ½ yellow onion
- 1 c. spaghetti sauce
- 1 can refried beans
- ¼ c. taco seasoning
- 1 box taco shells
- 8 oz. Velveeta cheese cut into strips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large skillet, heat ground meat and diced onions over medium heat. Use a spatula to separate the meat into crumbles and cook until meat is no longer pink. Drain excess fat. Add refried beans, taco seasoning, and spaghetti sauce. Mix well and heat for an additional 5 minutes until heated thoroughly.
- Place the taco shells upright in a greased 13 x 9 pan and cook the shells for approximately 4 minutes prior to stuffing with meat. This is not a required step, but will help keep the bottom of the shells from becoming mushy. Remove shells from oven and place a small strip of Velveeta cheese at the bottom of each taco shell. Fill each shell with the meat mixture and then place more cheese (shredded or Velveeta, your preference) to the top of each filled shell. Place in the oven for another 15 minutes. Serve with sour cream, hot sauce, guacamole, or other taco toppings.
